The relationship

Matching the Day Master exactly, this is the least differentiated relationship in the chart. Nothing is produced, controlled, or demanded. That is why it reads as an ally and, in the same motion, as competition: an equal shares your footing and also wants it.

How it shows up

Often belongs to people who would rather do a thing themselves than ask, and who keep a small number of equals close. Steady under their own authority, and uncomfortable taking orders from someone they do not respect.

Where the cost is

The cost is collaboration. Sameness makes comparison easy and division of labour hard, so effort gets duplicated and credit gets contested. Under pressure it can harden into doing everything alone and calling that strength.

What keeps it in proportion

Output keeps it useful. Peers that produce something together stop being rivals, because the thing made is shared and the comparison stops being the point.
